Microneedling at Home – Is it worth the Hype?

Microneedling at Home – Is it Worth it?

Most of you might have heard of this beauty trend Microneedling.  The first time I tried it was in New York City and to tell you the truth, it was so painful for me but that’s because she was using the Microneedling Pen. So after that day, I never tried it again, until 3 weeks ago.  I decided to buy a 0.5mm Microneedling roller since I was so intrigued in doing this treatment myself at home.
As someone who suffered from acne when I was in high school, I can tell you I’m so excited to see the results. Most of you don’t know yet probably but I do have some minor acne scars due to past acne problems.
I’ve learned various things about my skin; maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle plays an important role in how your skin looks, but how we treat it can make a huge impact as well! If you want to know my morning and night Skincare Routine click here.

What is Microneedling?

If you haven’t heard of microneedling, it’s a skin treatment that you can do at home or get it done by an esthetician.  This treatment penetrates hundreds of needles into your skin creating miniature wounds. I know this sounds very painful but it isn’t! Now, all those miniature wounds trigger your body to produce elastin and collagen, which improves your skin but it will take some time. Microneedling improves fine lines, acne scars, wrinkles, shrinks pores, reverses sun damage and pigmentation.  After knowing all these benefits of microneedling why not try it!

How to Microneedle at Home?

As mentioned previously, I bought a 0.5mm Derma roller which can be purchased here. I used this derma roller once every week, in order to allow the skin to replenish itself. I cannot begin to explain how happy I am with my results, even if is only been a couple of weeks. The best thing is that this routine only takes a few minutes out of your day. I usually do this routine in the evening and I cleanse my face before doing this. You do need to make sure you are properly taking care of your skin if you want to know more about what products I use for my skincare day and night routine, click here.

I roll the derma roller over my skin about 4 times all over my face and then a few more times on the areas of my face that have deep scars or fine lines.  After I am done with the derma roller, I immediately apply the Petunia Skincare which contains Hyaluronic Acid with Vitamin C for the face. In my opinion, this one was great because it not only hydrates my skin but it also diminishes lines and wrinkles with their anti-aging vegan product.
Their product is not expensive at all and it works beautifully. After that dries, I put on my night routine products but I don’t start from the cleanser, this time I skip to the last step which is the Olehenriksen Uplifting Transformation Eye Creme.

Why is best to microneedle at night?

At night is perfect to do this treatment since your body goes into healing and detoxing mode! Plus on top of that, the derma roller can leave your skin a bit blushed, so I rather not do this before going out.  Remember that after the treatment you cannot wear makeup so all in all night time is best!

Don’t be afraid to try Microneedling…

We all have bad experiences of some sort in life right? So if you have had a bad experience with this treatment don’t give up on it just yet! Trust me, I wasn’t going to do it. I was so afraid of hurting myself or even thinking of the pain I once went through. I mean, having hundreds of needles penetrate my skin and on top of that roll across my face is scary! In all honesty, it really doesn’t hurt. The only thing that you will feel is some tingling roller going across your face. After having done this procedure various times, you will be used to it!

*Super important Tip: When you are passing the derma roller make sure not to go in every direction as you can hurt yourself. If you started going up and down stick to that.

So, is it worth the hype?

Sure, it is! It’s only been a few weeks since I have been using the derma roller regularly but I have noticed my skin getting smooth and clear.  I know that my diet changes have also played an important role in this, but I can tell that my skin is getting smoother. So, in my opinion, this procedure is so worth it and derma rolling at home is inexpensive.
I’m getting ready for my wedding in a year so I need this skin to be nice and even! To the point that I am considering buying the 1 mm derma roller so my skin can look even better. Now if you do decide to go with the 1 mm derma roller make sure you only do this procedure once a month. The bigger the needle the less frequent you do this treatment.

Have you given microneedling a try before? If you haven’t you should consider it!
What was your experience with microneedling, if you have don’t it before? Would you do this procedure?
